You have already started, for whatever reason you are browsing this information. The next step is to get in touch with one of the Branch Contacts by visiting the contact page here or just turn up at one our classes. That evening you'll get to talk to members of the Branch and have a chance to try your hand and feet at Scottish Country Dancing.
Contrary to what might be expected, it is not a type of folk dancing, it is Scotland's version of ballroom dancing. Like contra and square dancing , several dancers work together to form a series of figures. Typically, three to five couples form a set, the men forming one line facing their partners who form a line opposite them. The footwork in SCD uses positions similar to ballet with the feet turned out when dancing. This is far less demanding than might initially be expected. When done properly, SCD is extremely elegant and graceful. It has been rightly called "a form of controlled abandon", and its GREAT FUN !
